Who we are and our history
My name is Maria, I am the designer of the original cat jacket/harness, the seamstress and I have a wealth of knowledge about my jackets and cats. and I work alongside my husband; Dale with a little help from our daughter; Jorgia. We are from Yorkshire, living in the Scottish Highlands.
We lived in Yorkshire and always had holidays in Scotland, we dreamed that one day we would live here. After an adventure in our motorhome to visit the Highlands, we fell in love with the area and decided to make our dreams come true. In July 2019 after selling our home in Yorkshire we made the 8 1/2 hour journey with all our animals up here to start our new life. We are a formidable team and work very hard together.
We are proud owners of a Bengal; Otis and a Maine Coon; Barney along with 4 dogs too! In 2008 when we brought Otis home for the first time, we realised that the many harnesses on the market were not secure and not feline escape proof. Our cats were easily escaping from them by simply 'reversing' out of them. We therefore began developing our own jacket design using our own experiences and lots of research. Over the years our design has evolved using opinions and feedback from cat breeders and other owners.
The jackets are made to measure (bespoke) to suit your cats measurements and requirements. We make each jacket using quality fabrics. They fasten securely around the neck and chest with long strips of strong hook and loop tape. All jackets are reversible with black cotton or another choice (as specified by the customer, just make a note on the order).
The jackets are extremely durable, triple sewn for strength, hard wearing and machine washable. They are easy and quick to put on and adjust to your cat. They have a secure, welded steel D-ring with extra reinforced stitching to attach your lead to go for walkies.
The jackets are not designed for the cat to be left outside unattended whilst attached to something. Although we cannot guarantee that the jackets are totally escape proof we have worked to get them to be as close as possible. It is important to ensure correct fit and that training is completed before embarking outside.
Our design fulfils the 6 main aims for success:
Security
Strength
Practicality
Design
Comfort

How did the name ‘Mynwood’ come about?
Our story and beginning started way back in 2003 when we moved into our first home in Yorkshire. The house was called ‘Mynwood’, named after its previous owner; Minnie Woodhouse. Minnie, we discovered after moving in was a lovely elderly lady who was popular in the village and had lived in Mynwood all her married life with her husband who’d sadly passed away a few years before she did, prior to us buying the house.
As we moved into Mynwood, we discovered an old aerial photograph in the loft. It showed Minnie in the garden holding a cup of tea while looking up to the camera.
We kept that picture as it felt as though Minnie was watching over us in our new home - her old one.
In 2008, when I got Otis, my first Bengal kitten and decided to start making the jackets it was the obvious name for it. Minnie would continue to watch over all the cats like she had us in our home.
